Vacation With The Lins. Mahaka, Hawaii

One of my spontaneous trips this year… driving around aimlessly, and suddenly my good friend Tom called to tell me he was in Hawaii with Jess and Megan, and asked if I wanted to join them for a week…

The following day I went to Northwest and booked my flight.

I left for Oahu on 7/27/2002 and stayed until 8/3/2002.

During that week, Tom, Jess, Megan and I stayed in Makaha, then in Turtle Cove, finally ending up in Honolulu before heading back to our regular schedule of work.

As usual, in Hawaii there is never a lack for sunny skies.

Jess hasn’t been sleeping much ever since the Megan was born… she was really tired that night
We were hoping that Megan would eventually fall asleep on her own, but that proved an impossible mission. Before our main entrees arrived, Megan was crying like there was no tomorrow, and we end up bringing the food back… I was really tired anyway so that was fine.
Only in Hawaii – Chili over rice. Actually pretty tasty!
Ever since I was a kid, I had always thought of golf as an “old man’s sport”.
At the same time I never understood why a lot of my friends have picked up golf over the years…
In any case Tom convinced me to go play a round of golf at the Makaha Golf Course.
Being at the condo meant that we get a “locals” rate of $35 instead of the “tourist” rate of $120 for 18 holes… nice deal.
It was raining when we drove out for some groceries. When we came back (about 20 minutes later) it was sunny again, and right around the condo we saw a rainbow….

After a week at Makaha Bay, Tom convinced Jess to take a tour around the island. Tom booked a room for two nights at the Turtle Bay Resort, at the Northern tip of Oahu, next to North Beach. Jess was hesitant in moving, saying that the condo was prepaid for two weeks already, and she thought it woud be a waste of time if we moved to another place…

Until Jess walked in to the room / bungalow we stayed at – she couldn’t stop praising the marble bath, the wood floor, and the ocean view, right from the balcony window…

Dinner at the restaurant of the hotel… I must have said something wrong to the waitress (what’s new?) – we waited forever for our food to arrive. Megan was very well behaved throughout dinner, so we had a nice quiet meal that evening…

Finally, 40 minutes later, we got our wonderful tasting Ahi Tuna appetizer…

Then he had to put it twice to get it in the hole. Tom said that he is going to work on his short game…

Tom got bored at watching me fail in Golf, and dozed off while feeling the ocean breeze.

We stopped by a coconut stand… it always sounds a lot tastier than the actual taste.

How was the taste? Not as good as we thought it’d be – luke warm, no sweetness whatsoever.
Tom and Jess decided to check out Waimea Bay while I held Megan, attracting attention from female tourists at the waiting area…
